ABSTRACT

It is important to consider the primary roles that exist for the associated privacy responsibilities for energy usage and production data and who has control over that data. This chapter uses both the roles and responsibilities terms from the privacy profession and the Smart Grid sector to help establish a better understanding and linkage between the two sets of terms. It looks at the ways in which the data owner can exercise control of his or her associated data, and the responsibilities he or she has for protecting his or her own privacy. The chapter looks at the ways in which the data custodian or data controller can implement privacy protections and security controls for the energy data and associated personal information that he or she has collected, and for which he or she is responsible. Privacy use cases are valuable to use to break down specific scenarios involving access to energy usage and production data and personal information.
