ABSTRACT
This delightful and pivotal paper was the first description of hormonal therapy for breast cancer. This report, which was actually presented by Beatson at the University of Edinburgh, summarizes the treatment of two women: one with locally advanced breast cancer operated on for cure following two pregnancies, who developed a local recurrence and in whom removal of the ovaries resulted in a nearly complete clinical response, and one with locally advanced breast cancer in whom oophorectomy resulted in a major partial response.
