Anti-oestrogen therapy for breast cancer – A report on 300 patients treated with tamoxifen

In this often-cited paper, Ward and colleagues described tumour responses in up to 72% of cases (104 of 145), from the administration of 20 mg of tamoxifen twice daily, in women not previously treated with hormonal manipulation. Continued response of more than 2 years in 10% of cases (21of 203) was reported. Responses rates were described to be higher in women treated with 20 mg twice daily, up to 72% (104 of 145) versus 60% for 10 mg twice daily (22of 37).
