ABSTRACT
This editorial was written in response to related reference (2). It clearly defines the issues related to the potential for X-ray carcinogenesis in the breast and its importance in mammographic screening. In 1976, Bailar (related reference 1) raised the concern that the X-rays from mammographic screening might cause as many breast cancer deaths as might be averted through early detection. Feig presents the issues in a succinct fashion.
