ABSTRACT

There are probably so many varied and different short-term solutions to truancy and absenteeism in use by schools throughout the United Kingdom that it would be almost impossible to mention them all. Many short-term solutions are unique to individual schools. Therefore, this and the next three chapters will focus on a consideration of some of the better known and more frequently used schemes. The solutions discussed in this and succeeding chapters are presented in tabular form in Figure 3.1 which, by itself, indicates the breadth and range of existing provision. Nearly 120 short-term solutions are listed in Figure 3.1. This chapter will focus on the first twenty of these short-term solutions; the remainder being covered between Chapters 4 to 6.
