ABSTRACT
The next two chapters are especially important for those teachers and education welfare officers who work in schools with a history of serious, long-term attendance problems. The discussion is particularly relevant for those schools that have received adverse criticism on attendance in a recent inspection or may be fearing the worst from a forthcoming inspection. Finally, the contents will provide significant ideas and challenges for those staff who work in schools that are either at or towards the bottom of league tables on attendance or have been put into special measures (or even failed an inspection) partly or totally because of attendance issues.
