ABSTRACT

Gardner drew upon findings from evolutionary biology, anthropology, developmental and cognitive psychology, neuropsychology and psychometrics to arrive at seven different criteria to judge a person’s type of intelligence. The Verbal/Linguistic intelligence helps pupils to communicate and make sense of the world through language. The Logical/Mathematical intelligence helps pupils to appreciate abstract relations, use deductive and inductive reasoning and critical thinking. The Visual/Spatial intelligence helps pupils perceive visual or spatial information and to create visual images from memory. The Body/Kinaesthetic intelligence helps pupils to use all or parts of the body to create or solve problems. The Interpersonal intelligence helps pupils to make and see distinctions in other people’s feelings and intentions. Visual/spatial intelligence relates to visual perception of the environment, the ability to create and manipulate mental images, and the orientation of the body in space.
