ABSTRACT
The purpose of this and the following chapter is to explore in some detail what can be learned about the differences in relationships between universities and their territories by using case studies as examples. In this chapter Oxfordshire (the UK) and Grenoble (France) are discussed, and Stanford, Louisville and Princeton in the US in the next.
