ABSTRACT
Given the international figures on the representation of men and women in teaching, and the gendered nature of occupational choice, perceptions of teaching must be considered within the broader context of gender and the occupational structure. This chapter presents analyses of perceptions of teaching garnered from international research and from the views of school leavers and student teachers.
