ABSTRACT

Thinking skills are an important part of the National Curriculum. Since the review undertaken by Carol McGuinness (1999) and their specific inclusion in National Curriculum documentation there has been increasing interest in the teaching of, for and about thinking. The headings under which ‘thinking skills’ are grouped are as follows:

• Information-processing skills – These enable pupils to locate and collect relevant information, to sort, classify, sequence, compare and contrast, and to analyse part/whole relationships.
