ABSTRACT
Since I am seeking to show the responses of particular institutions in Britain and Germany, it is necessary to provide some background by locating the institutions in their wider cultural contexts. Comparing the religious and academic cultures in Britain and Germany allows the salient differences between the two countries to become evident. This will promote understanding the responses of churches and academic communities to NRMs and explain the interlinking threads between them.
