ABSTRACT

Dharwad, in Karnataka State, India. The tank drains a watershed of 45 square kilometres much of which was developed for urban residential uses in the last decade of the twentieth century. It has a capacity of just over 2.25 million cubic metres. The tank was a key abstraction point for urban water supply, but in 1996 the quality was found to have declined to the point where it was not even suitable for treatment. This has meant that the tank has now been opened up for a range of leisure uses.
