ABSTRACT
This book presents the time-geographic approach developed by the Swedish Professor Torsten Hägerstrand (Human Geography, Lund University). The approach has been furthered by many researchers worldwide. The time-space couplings between people and things in daily life are foundational in time-geography, and specific concepts and a unique notation system have been developed to pay attention to the various kinds of couplings that are necessary for life. In this introductory chapter, time-geography is contextualized and a short biography of Torsten Hägerstrand is provided.
