ABSTRACT
The purpose of the study was to examine how economics as a Western field of scholarship and instruction is adapted by select Russian universities. Drawing on two constructivist strands of theories—social studies of science and institutionalism in organization studies—I examined the cases of three Russian universities that are ranked highly for their programs in economics. The cases were constructed from the official accounts of events recorded in university documents and supplemented with stories and enthymemes extracted from the interviews with faculty, administrators, and graduates of these universities.
