ABSTRACT

This chapter briefly explains the information systems/information technology (IS/IT) evaluation methods, outlining their limitation in the context of the changes and finally explaining the various evaluation measurement approaches within the context of the IS/IT life cycle. The financial measures do suffer from limitations in capturing the actual value of IS/IT in organisations. The measures of IS/IT have been mainly post-investment appraisals that try to assist management in reviewing the results of their decisions on IS/IT. The development and implementation phase involves a set of activities; producing technical specifications, applying an IS/IT development methodology to deliver an information system that consists of processes, IT components and people. The technical level is considered under the IS/IT development and implementation phase. The measurement phase starts when the first outcome is received at the end of the technical level and at that point the development and implementation phase ends.
