Chapter four Militarization of Iran 1973–8: an economic analysis

One of the most significant consequences of the oil-price increases on 1973–4 was a rapid growth in military expenditure in the Middle Eastern oil-exporting countries. The biggest military build-up was in Iran which by the mid-1970s had become the ‘absolute’ military power in the Gulf.
