ABSTRACT
The introduction explains the rationale behind and the genesis of the book as well as the research gap that the ensuing chapters fill. The concepts of ‘transdisciplinarity’ and ‘herstory’ are defined and commented on, as is the temporal focus of the book, namely, the period around 1800. The introduction moreover specifies the respective academic fields on which the book draws. A detailed chapter overview presents the overall line of argument and the structure of the book.
