ABSTRACT
The Preamble to the Sustainable Development Goals refers to a “transformed” world. This marks the start of the age of sustainability – a time when the terms of transition to a more sustainable and equitable world become the core focus of political contestation. This will entail a ‘deep and just’ transition. Radical incrementalism is a theory of change appropriate for this challenge. Drawing on African and post-humanist ethics, a relational conception of what it means to be human will be required to prepare for this transition. To overcome fear in order to act, ‘thymotic rage’ aligned with the feminine principle will be required.
