ABSTRACT
Story Circles bring people together into a situation of community where, based on the Story Circle process, everyone is respected and is considered equal and where participants are able to share more about themselves or a circumstance by telling their own stories based on their life experience. Story Circles provide a way for people from different backgrounds to come together to learn from each other and to explore cultural similarities and differences. The role of facilitators in Story Circles is to introduce the process, provide instructions on the process, to organize the participants into small groups, to be available if any questions or issues arise while small groups are engaged in the Story Circle process, and to facilitate the debrief of the experience. Intercultural skills are necessary in a globalized world where we see increasing threats to human rights. They are key to developing skills to make communication and exchange possible among the many different actors involved.
