ABSTRACT

This chapter brings together our insights on the return, reintegration, and onward mobility patterns of both first- and second-generation returnees from Greece and Italy to Albania. We compare their drivers of return, their types of return, and their experiences of reintegration, pointing to how the macro-level factors are shaped by meso- and micro-level elements that can shape the decisions and actions of both the first and second generations. We conclude this chapter by proposing a typology of return, reintegration, and onward mobility that looks at reintegration as a related but also separate process from further migration or remigration.
