ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we will evaluate various works written by al-Ghazālī to determine his hermeneutic framework. It will involve understanding his perspective on the balance between reason and revelation, and how he distinguishes literal readings from figurative ones. We will also see how al-Ghazālī's hermeneutic framework is inextricably entangled with his metaphysical framework. These principles will collectively set the stage for when we evaluate the various ways people have tried to hermeneutically reconcile Islam with evolution.
