ABSTRACT

This chapter, and the following two, showcase examples of leadership for innovation in health services. The examples are drawn from a series of research projects we conducted at multiple levels of the NHS and in multiple service areas including acute hospitals, mental health facilities, regional health authorities and primary care. We sought to reveal which practices, in which contexts, had the most success, and what obstacles leaders had to overcome, and how they set about so doing. In other words, we were seeking what works – and how.
