ABSTRACT

This introduction explains the layout of the book split into two sections. The first is divided into four chapters that explore platforms on which new reproductive technologies sit: historical trends in understanding the meaning of reproduction, and the medicalization and social control of reproduction and sexuality. The second section introduces the new reproductive technologies and genetic engineering, the surrounding issues of legislation, reproductive rights and social justice. The text concludes with a selection of recent developments and an indication of what they may come to mean.
