ABSTRACT

This chapter describes sensory emotional thing presentation experiences of symbolic sexual representations. It discusses the use of the aroused body for these symbolic representations. Sexual thing presentations of the aroused body use the sensory experience of the real body and its changes during the arousal cycle as thing presentation metaphoric symbolic representation experiences for elaborating sexual fantasy. Stepwise sequences of the arousal cycle and its link to fantasy are described. Nodal points of transition in the arousal cycle become crucial nodal points of meaning in sexual fantasy. This description helps understand romance and romantic love and its neurotic distortion because of personality disorders. The normal developmental stages of romantic and sexual love and their relationship and different subtypes are described.
