ABSTRACT

Chapter 3 turns to the Indigenous social movements in cities that put First Nations peoples in the ‘driver’s seat of their own affairs’ – cities like Phoenix, Vancouver, Sydney, Newcastle, and Auckland. It builds on the previous chapter, detailing how those who came to cities turned to activism to rebuild life projects in cities. It explains how Indigenous community building in cities occurred in a distinct period of Indigenous resurgence, anti-colonial politics, and actions of Indigenous solidarity and a time of significant international change as well.
