ABSTRACT
The Introduction focuses on the theoretical and methodological aspects: it asks research questions, presents major narratives on Suu Kyi and introduces the central concept of hybridity derived from postcolonial theory and the major argument which has been built on it. It explains the choice of agency-centred explanation as well as the hermeneutic approach applied here.
