ABSTRACT

This chapter goes beyond applying Perceptual Control Theory (PCT) within the design of services and the provision of therapy, towards demonstrating that PCT is a biopsychosocial model of mental health that distinguishes it from other universal approaches that have started to converge on similar views, such as Open Dialogue and Acceptance Commitment Therapy. PCT is distinctive because it is: (a) an extended model of homeostasis that is consistent with the biology of living organisms; (b) a theory with novel, empirically supported findings within neuroscience and bioinspired robotics; and (c) a conceptual lens through which to reinterpret existing findings within the neuroscience of mental health.
