ABSTRACT
This concluding chapter brings together the broader picture stemming from our findings in Chapters 3–5 in three different ways. We first summarise our findings on SDG politics at the global-national nexus in terms of contextual factors located at the levels of structures, institutions, and individuals. Second, we review the findings at a more general level in terms of interlinkages and tensions between legitimacy, responsibility, and accountability. Prior chapters demonstrate that the concepts can usefully each on its own underpin a study of the politics of the SDGs, but these chapters do not provide an account of interlinkages and tensions between findings in different chapters. Third, we assess in what regards the 2030 Agenda is thus far about continuity and change, and propose scenarios for its future trajectory. We end by reflecting on the contributions of the book and propose avenues for continued research in light of the conclusions reached. On a final note, we outline policy implications at a general level.
