ABSTRACT

This chapter summarises the findings of the empirical research and provides a comparative overview of the countries and case studies analysed. The first part presents the elements and forms of honour-based violence encountered, the most affected communities and the dynamics, which characterise this type of violence in the migration context. The chapter focuses then on the approaches adopted in the United Kingdom and Norway to combat honour-based violence and forced marriages, as well as on their shortcomings. Finally, after summarising the major risks typically associated with the use of alternative dispute resolution and restorative justice for these cases, the chapter retraces the major elements and characteristics of the programmes analysed in Chapters 6 and 7 in order to assess whether these programmes are able to overcome the shortcomings of the criminal law-based approaches and to avoid the mentioned risks.
