ABSTRACT

Capitalism, and the capitalist university, must attempt to expand and accumulate indefinitely to survive. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is increasingly seen as prefigurative in terms of possibilities for a ‘fully automated’ or ‘post-humanist’ future. Theories of Fully Automated Luxury Communism (FALC), and what could be described as the ‘FALC university’, or pedagogical possibilities based on post-humanism, transhumanism, or exopedagogy incorporate AI, and advanced, technologies within their frameworks. However, these theories privilege technological progress and post-human novelty rather than a negative critique of capitalism. How AI is being treated within capitalism has some lessons for our own (previous) primitive accumulation but it is only by adopting concrete, anti-capitalist, prefigurative forms of praxis in the present that we can build a future human (communist) society.
