ABSTRACT
The chapter focuses on the source materials and the methodological approach of the study. The methodology can be divided roughly into two parts. First, the reconstruction of the Pompeian peristyle gardens in their pre-eruption condition on the basis of the survived data, and second, the further analysis of these reconstructions. The methodological approach utilizes statistics and quantitative analysis, but connects them with a qualitative investigation of the archaeological data.
