ABSTRACT

Chapter 5 consists of case studies of enterprises that appear to have been losers during the COVID-19 pandemic. Due to the diverse profile of the enterprises studied, they are divided into the following categories: (1) blocked by restrictions, (2) too inert to protect themselves, (3) too traditional to change, (4) opportunity wasters. The descriptions of the particular international and local business organizations allow the reader to learn what circumstances and management mistakes contributed to the failures under analysis. Furthermore, the chapter presents a synthetic analysis of the key failure factors related to the following seven factors: (1) law and economics, (2) sector, (3) customers, (4) finances, (5) resources, (6) management, (7) sales. Thus, these are factors originating from either the environment of the studied enterprises or their internal structures.
