ABSTRACT
This chapter examines creative digital interventions by asylum seekers and undocumented migrants in the Pacific who are not officially designated as having “arrived” or are not eligible for the legal category of refugee. It looks at examples like Parastoo Theatre, a theatre company run by Afghan refugees in Malaysia, and the Refugee Art Project, which documents the self-produced art of individuals detained by the Australian government. This chapter considers how asylum seekers use creative methods for documenting uncertain conditions prior to official arrival and how the digitization of these stories crucially counters the state exclusion of these narratives and experiences.
