ABSTRACT

This chapter contains, among other things, more information about the research questions, fieldwork, some reflections on the ethical considerations associated with the project, and some brief ‘pen portraits’ of participants and the circumstances leading them to the Foundation for Peace where the bulk of this data was collected. This will be particularly useful for readers working their way through the interview data presented in Chapters 3–5. Discussions in Part 3 of the book ultimately tie the front and back of the work together, synthesising insights derived from the data presented in the middle chapters of Part 2 with theoretical issues mapped out at the very start in Part 1. The book does not necessarily have to be read in the order it is written, and hopefully there are sufficient links with earlier and later chapters signposted for readers to easily navigate the work in a way that best makes sense to them. This chapter was written to aid this even further and hopefully provide greater transparency to the work.
