ABSTRACT

Being present to others can be nurtured in simple ways. When it comes to teaching interpersonal mindfulness to young people, mindfulness educator Susan Kaiser Greenland is my inspiration. At a Mindfulness in Education Network conference, Susan once showed a video of a third-grade class sitting on the floor in a circle. Each child in turn looked at the child on his or her left and said something like, “Hello, Bill, your eyes look brown.” The feeling of connection that moved around the circle was palpable.
