ABSTRACT
Conflict is another area where transformation can take place when conditions change. Faculty conflicts have been of special interest to me. Award-giving was a deep concern I brought to my work as an educator from my own high school days. Just before graduation, New Trier High School’s class of 1962 was invited into the school auditorium for an awards assembly. This came as a surprise to me and my classmates. When the Rensselaer Medal for best work in mathematics and science was announced, I thought of several friends who merited it. I was more embarrassed than pleased when I was invited on stage. I was uncomfortable being singled out.
