ABSTRACT
After teaching Sidwell Friends ninth graders about stress reduction for several years, a parent group invited me to offer a mindfulness workshop for parents. For two years I offered them stress reduction workshops similar to those I gave their students. The turnout was disappointing. When asked to continue a third year, I stopped to reflect. Were parents too busy to attend? Did they not want to admit to being overtaxed? In any case, “stress reduction” wasn’t a compelling subject for them.
