ABSTRACT
This chapter will describe the data and methods used in this book. The author has coded and analyzed more than 6,000 media articles published in four representative media outlets in China. He also interviewed more than 100 actors involved in the three studied controversies ranging from scientists, activists and journalists to officials and industry representatives.
