ABSTRACT

This chapter explains why I made this self-discovery journey at the age of 64 and what my reasons are for self-introspection that encourages me to let go and seek new ways. I felt I was too self-absorbed in the humdrum of everyday life, so I decided to take a long and deep breath before reflecting upon who, what, and where I am in life. The springboard for this journey was my dissertation in organization development (OD), with its understanding and application of concepts and theories. There were many possible paths to choose from in mapping out my journey, and later, I explain why I selected self-change and self-awareness as one way to fully integrate myself with becoming a better teacher. This journey is for readers who might be research students; general readers interested in knowing oneself, mindfulness, education, sociology, and social psychology; individuals wishing to improve themselves upon retirement once they feel it is time to revisit themselves; OD academics and practitioners; and readers interested in further self-development. With guidance from my adviser, I finally chose the itinerary that was the best travel plan to undertake. The travel itinerary contains three core values of integrity, professionalism, and spirituality in relation to my journey of enlightenment. I identified my fellow travelers on this journey to be my younger and older self, independent readers of my journaling, friends and students in my surveys and interviews, and expert jurors who are OD academics and practitioners.
