ABSTRACT
In the last 30 or 40 years, several new concepts emerged to help us understand, measure, evaluate, and cultivate sustainability. These concepts have been incorporated into some of our policies and plans and have become part of the lexicon used in the age of climate change and all the environmental challenges ahead of us. This sub-chapter presents some of these concepts and explains how they morphed from environmentalist jargon to common parlance. It also discusses the role of sustainability education and why it is important to make the language of sustainability accessible and understood, so that the next generation has the tools to incorporate sustainability concepts and apply them to their lives and their professions.
