ABSTRACT

A route to increased understanding of land use practices is to use statistics and microdata in conjunction with individual response data in surveys and censuses. In some cases, these sources can be combined with monitoring data, resulting in great user benefits. However, from legislative and computational points of view, there are limits as to how data can be combined. This chapter provides a brief overview of register data, how it can be used, and some country-specific differences with regard to access for the general public. Hands-on examples of register data usage are presented in text boxes elsewhere in this book.
