ABSTRACT

This book serves as a calling out of various ways in which translation studies as a field and the literary translation profession in the West are rooted in and uphold white supremacy and other forms of racism. It also serves as a calling in to make changes toward racial justice and away from the “unbearable whiteness of translation” in the West. The conclusion reiterates that, rather than simply “more diversity,” only a radical transformation of ideas and structures can lead to a sustainable and equitable future for the theory and practice of translation.
