ABSTRACT

This chapter presents examples from around the world of people who make peace, each in their own individual way, drawing on their own strengths and positionality. Interspersing stories of peacemakers and their actions, the chapter illustrates the power of individuals to take decisive action towards peace in their own communities. The chapter includes examples of peacemakers who have been active in the Georgian-South Ossetian peacemaking process: Lira Kozaeva, Paata Zakareishvili, Giorgi Khutsishvili, Manana Mebuke, Anna Sanakoeva, and Merab Chigoev. The chapter also introduces the author's positionality, explaining the author's background and personal history as relevant to her peacemaking practice.
