ABSTRACT
This chapter discusses the Chernobyl disaster and the CEZ as heritage being “worked through” in the realm of culture. Mediated representations are especially important for researchers of tourism as they not only shape tourism imaginaries but also stimulate heritage meaning-making as such. Cultural texts (literature, film, video games, and social media) briefly defined in the chapter shape the imagination of those arriving in the Zone and those working in it; they provide a significant point of reference for the creation of the narrative and therefore for the interpretation of heritage.
