ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the central ideas and concepts used in the variation theory of learning are described and exemplified. Variation theory describes not only the mechanism for learning but also how learning can be enhanced by the experience of variation of values related to critical aspects. The relationship between an object of learning and a critical aspect is shown. Types of critical aspects are described, for example, a critical aspect may also relate to something that students need to disregard. The patterns of variation that can be used in teaching are exemplified. The chapter ends with a list of the most important concepts used in the theory.
