ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a learning study as a model for teachers' collaborative and systematic development of teaching. The different parts of the learning study process are illustrated, for instance, how pre- and post-tests are used to identify how students experienced the content taught before and after the enacted lesson(s). One learning study in mathematics about teaching negative numbers in the seventh grade is given as an example of changes made and identification of critical aspects of the object of learning. In the final part of the chapter, the learning study is discussed as one example of how to accumulate knowledge about teaching for the teaching profession.
