ABSTRACT

Chapter 2 presents a discussion on the current standing of entrepreneurial education as a scholarly field. After explaining different views on entrepreneurial education and its different roles, we review the research status of entrepreneurial education, including philosophical approaches and their growing acceptance. We present entrepreneurial education as a progressive field built on the foundations of pragmatism and constructivism. The chapter also includes a selective review of learning theories employed in entrepreneurial education, as well as a discussion on the continuum and interplay between pedagogy (how to teach) and andragogy (how adults learn) and underlines the importance of context for entrepreneurial learning on two levels (different understanding of entrepreneurship in different cultures and environments and the contextual difference of sub-disciplines).
