ABSTRACT
This chapter introduces the notions of summarization and cross-modal communication and explains how the two can come together in a translation context. Tips are provided for enhancing the skills needed for condensed writing. Different examples of cross-modal communication are presented, such as sight translation and précis-writing. The chapter ends with some discussion points, practical exercises, and suggestions for further reading.
