ABSTRACT
This chapter analyzes the (in)justice implications of neoliberal urbanism, a term that refers to processes of commodification, privatization, budget cuts and state withdrawal in various sectors guided by an ideology of unfettered economic growth. Specifically, we look at how the growth imperative, neoliberal urbanism, the privatization of commons and planetary urbanization undermine urban sustainability and justice under promises of new investments and revenues. We also examine the global nature of profit extraction and injustice under this imperative and draw connections between localities and movements for alternative economic development and models of well-being.
