ABSTRACT

This is the first-hand narrative of Ronald Amanze who had a stroke and sustained a brain injury before being diagnosed with dementia a couple of years later. The chapter interweaves Ronald’s story with poems about his everyday life that he publishes regularly on his Twitter account. Ronald tells of his background, his interest in music, and how he became aware of Black history and racism. He also tells of his experiences of being discriminated against in the care system. Finally, the chapter brings out his initiative ‘Talk Dementia’ where people are encouraged to talk about dementia through music, arts and poetry, an initiative which now have hundreds of entries on Twitter.
